Wilk & Younger Exhibition
Michele Kortbawi Wilk and Christie Younger have come together to create a vibrant exhibition! The show opens Friday, March 1st with an opening reception that evening from 5-8 pm.
Michele Kortbawi Wilk
Michele is a self-taught artist, apart from art classes during her early school years, who began drawing and painting when she was very young. Her love for art is equally shared with a love for all animals. In her young adulthood, Michele’s passion for animals landed her a job in Southern California working with animals for the motion picture industry.
Her practice in painting was informed first and foremost whilst working alongside exotic, native, and domestic animals in the film industry. Wilk continued to paint for pleasure while at the same time attracting the attention of famed Hollywood animal trainers such as Frank Inn (owner and trainer of “Benji”) and Cindy Cullen (daughter of Edgar Rice Boroughs). She found herself with regular commissions and began painting fulltime.
Christie Younger
Christie is an American artist who lives and works in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, amidst the inspiring backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains. Her paintings are collected internationally, shown in several acclaimed galleries across the Southeastern United States, and have been featured several times on HGTV’s Love It or List It. She has a diverse background and education in fine art along with biological science. This along with her love of nature brings to life her unique artistic perspective which ultimately is intended to convey light, beauty, and simplicity while simultaneously expressing the complexities within a subject finding balance between contradictions and beauty in imperfection.
