Maya Kulenovic
Maya Kulenovic is a Canadian artist known for her emotionally resonant and psychologically charged paintings. Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, her work reflects a deep engagement with memory, identity, and the unseen forces that shape human experience. Her haunting imagery has been exhibited in over twenty solo exhibitions and more than forty group shows and art fairs across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Japan, Italy, Turkey, and South Korea.
Kulenovic studied at the London University of the Arts, Chelsea College of Art and Design in London; the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto; and Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. She is also an alumna of London Goodenough College. Her academic background across multiple cultural and artistic traditions informs the complexity and depth of her visual language.
Her work is included in numerous public and private collections worldwide. A monograph of her work featuring an introduction by art critic Edward Lucie-Smith was published by d’jonge Hond in Amsterdam. Her most recent book, Maya Kulenovic: Fugue, with an essay by Mark Kingwell, was published in 2017. Kulenovic currently lives and works in Toronto.
