Martin Poole
Martin Poole (1957–2025) was a kind, brilliant, and exceptionally talented artist whose presence and artistry touched countless lives. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the State University of New York at Buffalo and continued to refine his practice through private study with Thomas S. Buechner.
In addition to creating his own work, Poole was a devoted teacher. He led portrait painting workshops at the Thomas Buechner Studio and taught courses in oils, watercolors, landscapes, and ceramics at 171 Cedar Arts Center, both located in Corning, New York. His paintings were featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the United States, including at the Rockwell Museum and Arnot Art Museum in New York, the Kilby Art Center in New Jersey, Great American Artists in Ohio, Artists of America in Colorado, and the Wellsboro Regional Show in Pennsylvania, where he earned both second- and third-place awards.
Principle Gallery had the honor of representing Marty since 1996, sharing his extraordinary work with collectors and admirers for nearly four decades.
Martin Poole passed away in September 2025. His warmth, generosity, and artistic brilliance leave a lasting legacy, and he will be deeply missed by the art community, his students, and all who knew him.
