Larry Preston
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1951, Larry Preston spent his teenage years at the Worcester Art Museum, where he frequently viewed the museum’s collection of Flemish still life paintings. He attempted to imitate their techniques and, in doing so, developed the method he uses today to paint his still lifes and landscapes. Completely self-taught, his work evolved over many years.
In his late teens, Preston embarked on what became a successful career as a musician. After twenty years in the music industry, he ultimately decided to return to his first love: painting. Upon his return, he experimented with many different styles, including surrealism and abstract work. Echoing his love for the paintings he admired in his youth, Preston’s desire to paint still lifes and landscapes eventually took over.
Preston’s work has won numerous national awards, including several from The Artist’s Magazine, Art Calendar, and various juried art shows. He was a featured artist in American Artist Magazine in its July/August 2005 issue, and his paintings are included in national and international collections. His work has also appeared in illustrations for newspapers and national magazines, and he has been a featured artist for PBS auctions.
