Gary Weisman was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1952. He studied sculpture and drawing at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, The Art Institute of Chicago, and earned his BA from Columbia College. Weisman advanced his education through years of additional apprenticeships with notable sculptors such as, Jack Kearney, Evangelos Frudakis, and Leslie Posey. He became a drawing instructor at Manatee College in Sarasota, Florida in 1982. Four years later, Weisman began teaching at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and ended his time there in 2016.
