Colin Fraser
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1957, Colin Fraser is well known for his luminous still life and landscape paintings, which have earned acclaim across Europe and North America. After completing his teacher training and studying Fine Art at Brighton Polytechnic in the late 1970s, Fraser taught art in Worthing, England, and later in Sweden. In 1983, he left teaching to devote himself fully to painting and exhibiting his work.
Fraser initially worked in oils and watercolor, but found that these mediums did not offer the color intensity and luminosity he sought. He began experimenting with egg tempera, a challenging medium used since ancient times, which requires blending pigment with fast-drying egg yolk as a binder. With little contemporary guidance available, Fraser spent a decade teaching himself the technique, ultimately mastering a process that now defines his work. His still life compositions, meticulously arranged to evoke mood and personal resonance, often carry titles that reflect the memories and emotions they inspire.
Fraser’s paintings have been exhibited widely, with shows in London, Amsterdam, New York, Toronto, and Washington. He continues to live and work in Sweden with his family, creating evocative works that highlight his singular mastery of egg tempera and his deep connection to the subjects he portrays.
