Joseph Zbukvic
Joseph Zbukvic was born in 1952 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. Though drawn to art from a young age, his parents discouraged him from pursuing it professionally, leading him to briefly study language at a pedagogical university. At age 18, political instability forced him and his family to emigrate to Australia. There, Zbukvic was finally able to dedicate himself to his creative passions, building a successful painting career in Melbourne, where he continues to live and work today. He has since become one of the leading masters of watercolor.
Over the course of an illustrious career, Zbukvic has garnered more than 200 major awards, including Plein Air Magazine’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. His enduring success stems from an extraordinary ability to translate any subject into a visual language of poetry. Through his sensitive, lyrical, and atmospheric paintings, he has captivated collectors and audiences around the world—affirming his place among the foremost watercolorists of our time.
